The Glückaufhaus was built in the early 1920’s by designs by the renowned architect Ernst Bode. The monumentally designed brick building, situated between Bismarck, Friedrich and Rüttenscheider Strasse, was a model for numerous buildings in the Ruhr area. As a landmark, the office building demonstrated the transformation of the city of Essen – from the steel and coal town to the industrial and commercial center. In the modernization of this building, a sense of historical awareness was as much a question as a vision that led to the 21st century. The monument-protected, symbolic façade has been restored and carefully integrated into the new design. This was followed by a new office building, which is tailored to the individual requirements of the tenant ifm electronic. Highest requirements and high-end equipment are standard. To the park it opens with a transparent, light-flooded building envelope, which is a fascinating contrast to the historical brick. The exposed location of the building is unique – a property that has no equal.
